Coping With Thanksgiving Travel Stress

Thanksgiving - a time for tributes, turkey, and, well... travel. Thanksgiving is America's busiest weekend for travel. It is, after all, a time of happy family reunions when people journey distances-long and short-to be with family and friends. But for parents travelling with young kids, the holiday spirit could be tinged with anxiety. Here are some tips to help you make your travel experience less stressful:

o Plan ahead: Travel plans can always go awry. And when you are travelling with a bunch of kids in tow, they most certainly will. You can avoid a lot of travel stress by planning each step of the journey in detail, beforehand.

o Beat the rush: Jammed highways, with traffic moving at snail's pace is often an unfortunate reality during the Thanksgiving weekend. However, since the rush starts only by Wednesday, you can beat it by starting out a day earlier, on Tuesday. Another alternative would be to take a train or plane to your destination, instead of driving.

o Take frequent breaks: If you expect your kids to sit straight through the ten-hour drive to grandma's without complaining, you are asking for trouble. Ensure that you plan sufficient stops on the way, for snacks and to let the kids use the bathroom, for instance.

o Keep them occupied: Kids will be kids. They are bound to get bored and weary. And they will react by throwing tantrums and being difficult. Your best bet is to keep them happy. Pack in a couple of toys, favorite books, and puzzles to help pass the time. Another way to keep them entertained is to engage in simple fun activities, like singing, reciting poems, or reading out the billboards on the way.

So much for history. What the day has come to mean for most of us is family gathering together over the traditional Thanksgiving dinner - turkey and all the trimmings. And that's the spirit you want to capture in your Thanksgiving photographs - the spirit of family and togetherness.

Save a list of Travel & More

Make a list of all the things that you may have to take them - not to save any item - you can always add or scratch - depending on the type of travel (air-car-bus, etc.) at the beginning of the week or so there before the scheduled date of departure and print a copy. It will be easier if you categorize concepts. For example ... Batch set "and a list of all the toiletries, clothing list, list of all the cameras list of requirements, camera, phone, and electronic devicestogether.

Don't forget to include items like the E-Z pass, change for tolls, credit cards; and, of course, those special items for each traveler be it child or senior citizen. About a week or so before the date of departure, print out a copy and as you begin to assemble items on the list, check them off. You'll find you will think of something else to include, so add it on. This will help eliminate finding out, after you're on the road five hours later that you thought of something and wondered if you packed it - and more than likely, forgot it.

Having saved the "Traveling List" on your computer ... it will be there for you to print out again, with additions and/or corrections, if necessary - a most helpful Cowzy Cue!

Additional Suggestions:

Some time before the trip, share the Traveling List with other members who will travel with you, especially children, adding to the List any item such individual will want or need to make his or her trip more pleasant and comfortable in turn, making it so for everyone else.

Along with the useful Traveling List ... a day or two ahead of the trip, lay out the clothing and/or items to be worn or used for each individual. This will eliminate the last minute rush of "what to wear" and "what to take." This way too, an item can be added to the List and won't be forgotten.

For long trips and overnight stays, be sure to take along items of interest to each individual for use at night at motels and/or hotels. For example, new DVDs or VCRs, coloring books, crossword puzzle books, knitting and/or crocheting supplies, if desired.

You might call ahead and ask of motel and/or hotel if DVD and/or VCR players are available. Also inquire if pets are allowed if traveling with you.

Some time before the trip, print out a set of address labels. These will be most useful and readily available for mailing of letters, postcards, pictures and/or souvenirs along the trip. A good supply of stamps will help also.

Take the time to "map out" your route, using an up-to-date Atlas. Also, ahead of the trip, make note of special features along the route worthy of sightseeing and/or a specific stop. Work any detours for such special places into the trip. (Most "items of interest" are usually at least a half hour off the main road).

States will provide, (most free of charge) brochures listing places to see with fees and charges.

Camper Awning - Making Travel More Enjoyable

For people who enjoy travel, taking weekend trips to see
national parks, historical sites, or visit family and friends,
the camper is a great way to go. Today, you can find all types
of campers. Some campers are full capacity, meaning they are
more like a large trailer while other campers are small,
unfolding once you reach your destination to provide sleeping
quarters, a small kitchen, indoor bathroom, and even sitting
area. Although you could spend a fortune for a camper, you will
also discover some excellent bargains for used campers.

As you sit at the campsite, enjoying the beautiful outdoors, the
last thing you want is to be miserable. After all, the whole
purpose of using the camper is to escape the hustle and bustle
of life, finding a peaceful way to escape. For this reason, you
definitely want to choose something with a camper awning or buy
an awning to have installed. The benefits in this case are
tremendous. For example, your camper awning will provide shade
during the hot day or protection during rain so you can still
sit outside without being affected.

The type of camper awning you choose will depend on the size of
the camper and your personal preference. In either case, these
awnings are easy to set up and very affordable. In addition, a
camper awning comes in a wide range of colors and patterns so
you can take an ordinary camper and make it shine. Of course,
when choosing a camper awning, the most important factors
include strength and durability.

Let us say you have a camper awning but it is old and ragged
looking. Every time you travel, you find yourself spending far
too much time trying to fight with getting the awning open and
closed. In this case, you could simply replace and existing
camper awning, doing the work yourself. For this, start by
measuring the length and width of the fabric while you have the
awning in the open position. For the length, measure from the
roller tube all the way to the rail, making sure any hardware or
a valance is excluded. As far as the width, this is measured as
the distance between the centerline of the awning to the
hardware's centerline

We recommend you go with the same make and model of awning,
although you could choose a different design, which will make
replacement much easier. Keeping the camper awning open, look
for the manufacturer's tag, which will have the model number
listed. In this case, you can simply place your order,
providing the manufacturer with the required model and serial
number.

To replace an existing camper awning, you need the roller
assembly and fabric, as well as coordinating hardware.
Sometimes, these pieces are sold as one unit and sometimes
piecemeal. The manufacturer can guide you through this process,
as well as choosing a different color or pattern, if you like.
However, you might ask the manufacturer about any upgrades that
might be available. For example, you might have an older model
camper awning that has now been replaced with new fabric or
technology. A great example would be fabric that is scratch
resistant, mildew resistant, and fade resistant, perhaps
something your old camper awning did not offer.

Stress Less Family Vacations - A Guide to Easier Family Travel

Family vacations and stress free don't always go hand in hand. Every parent deserves to have a vacation they can actually enjoy. If you dread your family vacation because it does nothing but cause more stress for you, take heart. The following tips will help you enjoy your vacation with kids in tow.

Plan Ahead

Planning is the most important part of having a stress-less family vacation. If you take steps before you leave to plan out what you will need to really enjoy the trip, you'll find that you will be able to relax a whole lot more.

One of the most important parts of planning is involving your kids. If your kids are old enough, involve them directly in planning the trip. Not all of their ideas will be practical, but do your best to ask questions and find out what they want to do.

One of the biggest causes of stress on a vacation is the kids complaining about the activities. When they have a hand in deciding what will be going on, they will be less likely to complain. If complaining does pop up during the trip, you can gently remind them that they had a hand in planning the trip.

When you are planning, be sure to avoid packing too much into one day. Although you may have a limited amount of time for your vacation, you want to be sure that you give yourself and your family some breathing room. Visiting five different locations in one day is a sure fire recipe for frazzled nerves and fighting. Before you arrive at your destination, list your top picks for sightseeing and then save the rest for the next trip.

Travel Light

This may not seem possible with kids and especially younger kids, but you'll find that you will all enjoy the trip more if you don't have to lug around a bunch of luggage. Have your children select one to three special toys for the journey and just say no to the rest. Figure out what you can buy when you get there (shampoo, an extra shirt) and what must absolutely come with you (prescription medications). You may even be able to leave the stroller and other baby gear at home if your hotel provides rentals.

Bring a "Waiting" Bag

If you are sightseeing or going to an amusement park while you are vacationing, you will spend some time waiting. Even the most well-mannered kids can get testy while they are waiting.

Solve this problem by creating a bag of special goodies that you children can use while they are waiting. Include a deck of cards, some small puzzles, a few word searches, some snacks, electronic travel games and coloring books. Whatever you feel is necessary to keep your kids distracted, throw it in the bag. Hold onto the bag and only bring it out when your kids absolutely need it. This way waiting becomes something special!

With these tips, you'll reduce your stress and be able to have an enjoyable family vacation.

Unplugged Kids Travel Games And Activities

Looking for some unplugged time to spend with your family? Travel time is the perfect time to reconnect with family by playing fun, challenging games and activities - no batteries or power cord required.

Car Games: Enhance that competitive spirit by playing classic road games that depend on luck and powers of observation like billboard bingo or the license plate game. Challenge a parent's fading memory skills by alternating singing songs starting with each letter of the alphabet and see who gets stumped first. Continue with a rousing rendition of "Name That Tune" style guessing games using lines from familiar family songs, famous quotes or even nursery rhymes. Keep kids engaged in the games by awarding small prizes to the winners.

Memory Games for Anytime Fun: Our family has never enjoyed the classic I Spy game so we changed the rules and combined it with twenty questions. The game starts the same (I spy with my little eye...) but the guesser is allowed to ask a series of yes or no questions until the object is discovered or the guesser gives up. Repeating games such as grandmothers purse (In grandmother's purse there are many things) are also quiet fun while traveling.

Logic Games & Puzzles: Spend travel time solving puzzles or playing logic games as a family. Many game books feature puzzles requiring a variety of skills that can be appropriate for almost any age. Work together as a family or in teams to see if you can finish an entire book or magazine. Another old standby is hangman. It can be played almost anywhere and requires something to write with and a scrap of paper.

Math Games: Games such as Yahtzee or Math Dice are fun for the entire family and also work on basic adding and logic skills - learning and fun all in one! Twenty-one is another simple game that requires only a deck of cards. For older kids, find a magic with math book that is filled with number tricks and games.

Reconnect with your family on your next vacation by spending time together unplugged. Nothing brings a family together like fun, challenging games and puzzles.

The Best Travel Toys for Toddlers

Toddlers are notoriously hard to entertain on a long trip. They do not have the attention span for movies, cannot read, find it impossible to sit still, and, despite what the toy companies want you to believe, there is no fail safe travel toy that will entertain a toddler (or any child) for hours on end. So what is a parent to do? The key to entertaining toddlers on a long journey is distraction.

Instead of trying to find that perfect toy, pack a variety of simple toys that, combined with imagination, can be used in a variety of ways. Think quality - you want enough toys to be able to swap out often.

Before the trip, create a toddler activity kit containing a variety of age appropriate toys. Things like stacking cups, links, cars, puzzles and chunky crayons are all good choices. Finger puppets and small animals are fun for playing let's pretend and engaging your child for slightly longer periods of time. Think outside the box as you are selecting toys. For example, squeeze toys are always fun in the bathtub but they are perfect for creating a distraction. Puff some air in a toddler's hair or on their arm and you immediately get their attention. In desperate times you can even fill one with water and watch the giggles start.

Use your toy assortment wisely. Pull out the first thing and if it doesn't capture their attention immediately, put it away and try something else. Use toys in unusual or unexpected ways. For example, a large stacking cup can become a hat. Lastly, do not wait until they get bored with a toy to introduce a new one. Gradually transition between toys - it makes both items last a little bit longer.

The best travel toy for toddlers is a well stocked activity bag that allows you to continually distract them. With a little imagination, you might even enjoy the trip.

Airline Travel With Children

Parents are often worried about having their children travel alone and it is no wonder with all the problems that can occur while taking a trip. Adults can find themselves into some sort of situation that might be dangerous. The airlines are very aware of this problem and have taken steps to assist parents who need to send their children across country.

The first thing that a parent needs to do is make sure that their child is travel savvy. You should instruct your child never to speak to strangers and always stay where they are accompanied by an employee of the airlines. Farther, you should make sure that you pin a name tag with address and phone number to contact in case of an emergency. It is wise to put in your name and information but also the name and information of the person to whom they are traveling.

Children under the age of six must be accompanied with an adult as the airline will not take the responsibility for their care and safety. You must remember that the airline employee's have many things to do and sometimes they are responsible for more than one child at the time. The children should take along games or puzzles that they can play with to keep them entertained while on flight. If your child has any special needs make sure that the airline is fully aware of this before you buy the ticket. You should book a flight for your child on the last flight of the day. The reason for any cause there is a delay or lay over this might make it rather difficulty for the child.

The airline is very conscious about the needs of you and your family and they try very hard to make the flight a very safe and comfortable one. The children are normally place together in an area that the flight attendant can keep close watch over them making sure that they are safe. Even though they are there to watch out for your child make sure that you tell your child not to go off with anyone who might ask them to show them to the bathroom or anything else. The child should be made aware that before they leave the designated area with a relative or friend they should let the flight attendant know. In this manner the attendant can check to make sure that they are leaving with the right persons. The airline is the safest method to let your child travel.

5 Secrets to Getting Work Done During Travel

You are about to board another plane for yet another business trip. "Wow.", you think, "This is my forth trip this month. I am wasting way to much time traveling and things are falling behind."

It need not be this way. If you are disciplined and plan ahead you can turn you travel time into valuable and productive work time. This article provides some advice and guidelines to maximize your ability to do this.

Travel is a brilliant opportunity not only to catch up on unread emails and get in some reading time, but also to shift your mind into a different gear. It can be creative time too.

Have your tools ready.

If you want to use the time correctly, make sure that you pack correctly. Have your notebook (paper or computer) available and easy to access. IF you are going to struggle to get it out, hitting people over the head as you pry it from the overhead compartment, not only are you going to battle but the glares alone from your fellow passengers will be enough to put you off.

Ensure you have enough power.

I'm not only referring to charged batteries for your notebook, but also your own individual power. To get on a flight exhausted and with a hangover does not make for a good productive session. If you know you are catching that early morning flight, get a good nights rest rather than burning that midnight oil. Take a rain check on those last 4 drinks in the hotel bar for the next trip. Not only will you arrive at your destination fueled and charged, but your creative spurt during your travels will inspire you for the rest of the day.

Now regarding your notebook battery. If you are early and decide to do some work in the business lounge, don't forget to plug in. Make sure that you get on your flight with a full charge. If you are on an international flight, consider taking a spare battery along. However, some airlines do have in flight chargers these days.

Shut off and zone in.

It's acceptable when traveling to zone out for a while but equally acceptable to zone in when you need to get some work done. An iPod or MP3 player is a brilliant cure for that neighboring passenger that just wont shut up, and feels it's is essential that they tell you about the 4 kids and 7 grand children and all of their wonderful natural talents. Quick, get those earphones in, laptop out and zone in.

Get the creative juices flowing.

I'm not only talking about the wine, however, a glass of wine or your drink of choice, can do wonders to shift your mind into a different gear (provided you are not on the red eye morning flight). Use the different environment to do some creative thinking. Brainstorm about an issue that has been bugging you. Perhaps, chat to the person next to you about it to generate some new ideas.

Do something different to change the routine you re normally in when traveling. For example, if you normally read the entire flight, do a Soduku or a crossword puzzle, shift your brain, and then get out your notebook.

Don't forget to save.

There are few things worse than that feeling of opening your notebook and realizing that you did not press the save button. All that work, time and effort down the drain. So, ensure that you have auto save on as standard to minimize this risk. Consider, also backing up your work to a flash drive while you are on the road. Ensure that you store your flash drive away from your notebook. If your notebook gets lost or stolen, at least you will have your work or presentation on your flash drive and all will not be lost.

So when the next trip come around, decide upfront if this is going to be recreation travel time or productive time and plan ahead. After all, even though you are traveling, the time is still yours. Create your life.

Travel Nurse Staffing: Can I Start My own Agency?

With the tremendous nursing shortage in the United States there would seem to be a lot of money to be made in travel nurse staffing. Although this may be true, starting a travel nurse staffing company may not be as easy as one might think.

The biggest challenge in starting a travel nurse staffing company most people face is a lack of capital. The issue is that nurses want to be paid for their work very quickly but hospitals won't normally agree to pay the agencies as quick. If you were to start a travel nurse staffing company, you would need money to run your business while you are waiting to get paid by the hospitals.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the travel nurse staffing industry is highly competitive. You will need a constant source of nurse leads who are seeking jobs. These leads can be very expensive and may cost you thousands of dollars per month. Due to the high demand for qualified nursing professionals, and strong incentives offered by competitors, some nurses change their minds about taking an assignment when they get better offers from other companies. This is just another possible pitfall to keep in mind when starting a travel nurse staffing agency.

Another challenge in starting a travel nurse staffing company is you will have quite a bit of internal overhead. There are many pieces to the puzzle that will make it very difficult for only a few people to start. The key components are housing and nurse payroll departments, account management, and of course experienced nurse recruiters which may be difficult to find.

One additional factor to keep in mind is the potential liability in the nursing industry. You will need to make sure you carry a fair amount of liability insurance and that you keep good records of your nurses' credentials. Collecting paperwork can be pain, but failure to keep good records could lead to big trouble and major headaches down the road.

In closing, this article is not meant to discourage you from starting a travel nurse staffing company, but to make you aware of some potential pitfalls that you will need to keep in mind. If you remember some of the key points mentioned above, there is a good chance you will have a successful, profitable, travel nurse staffing agency.

Air travel with your child

Arriving by plane, for your grandparents' generation, has been a luxury to be treasured for a long life. Arriving by plane today is not only luxurious, it is more often than not a real nuisance. If you are planning the future of aviation in the next and be accompanied by your youth, you might benefit from suggestions that stress can make sure that your flight be not in use. "

During the flight, not just as a teenager with a big jobas a relationship with a young child that does not alleged tits. Your boyfriend is old enough to make the most of the pros and cons of the flight control, but it's up to you to ensure that he or she knows what they are.

The first thing you should give your boys, the severity of the fun is inadequate, while in an airport. airport security personnel to take all the references to bombs, weapons and terrorists very seriously, and your boyfriend can say something to joke that sooner or later with his beingasked to leave the security check for questioning. Your boyfriend should avoid any words that could be related to violence. While you think or already understand, it would not hurt to do a thing.

Your boyfriend is big enough to pack, but it is your responsibility to review the contents of the bags before going to the airport. Surely you do not want your teen to drive if the suspected trigger control security at the airport, sodelayed and possibly lost a flight.

The best travel tips from other travelers

Therefore, Lonely Planet and sites like it are so popular. Travelers who want to know where to go and stay in first place by those who were there, because the passengers do not usually have an agenda. Some think hotels or discount stores and their locations have an agenda and it certainly does not tell the whole truth. While this is true, it does not, review sites will be ignored. In fact, they should be used prior to a property or quit without a choice. Research

The reason for this is to get a comprehensive overview of a property. If you combine sources of hotel site (where they are understandably reluctant to guarantee that their best foot forward) to other neutral, you should be able to put together a commendable piece of the puzzle journey - decide where to stay. So some people opt for the price - some of location, amenities and some of some of the intangibles, such as property or highly valuedpersonally recommended hotels. But what a personal recommendation is worth, anyway? There is nothing more than an opinion, even though an estimated one of you know the person well. Buit I ask: if the exact perfect, you wanted to stay in Hawaii because it was recommended by others knew and had everything he wanted, including the price and would not be able to stay there because it was a good friend a settlement procedure terrible in the same place?

This is the problem with hotel ratings- You can very personal and unnecessary. A big help or a rant to be ignored. What we need is for you to decipher the traveler clear what visitors say, and then a determination of their logic. Some people do not take the time to search for reviews, so go with the "numbers". Discount sites use is fantastic with a 1-5 5. So what if you find a property with a 4.3, but only 3 comments? And 'this enough of a sample of which are reallyFeedback? What happens if a property is 25 reviews, but the average is 3.1 - only slightly above the average of the votes. This, of course, as many people as happy as the property is not like it. This being a big help?

It is an art to travel, when you see it as possible from the standpoint of production, as easy on yourself as. For suggestions, but the fact remains that not all sites are equal and do not review all of the reviews. At the end can only come to the numbers (this is a validCriteria) or instinct. I tend to use both in my assessment, but then I realize that most of the first search, the more pleasant the journey turns out to be a rule.
