Going on holiday. Unwinding. Recharging your batteries. Whatever you call it, it is most often the highlight of the year, and you will likely invest quite some time and thought into getting ready for it. One of the tedious and time consuming pre-holiday activities is packing. Some make check-lists, some leave it for the last minute; you might over pack or under pack. Let's look at a few categories of items you may want to keep room for in your suitcase.
Clothes and shoes. A good starting point in choosing the best outfits for your holiday is checking the weather. Look for the nearest city to your destination and check out the forecasts for the appropriate period of time. Another aspect to take into account is diversity: you want to have comfortable clothes for walks, various rides and the general unpredictable outdoor activities, at least one smart outfit for a restaurant or a party, and don't forget to pack a raincoat or umbrella - you don't want to have to spend half your holiday in some hotel room, after all.
Personals and cosmetics. In this department, the vast majority of accommodation facilities offer a satisfying level, in the form of various shapes of towels, bathrobes, slippers, sewing kits, shower gels and general bathroom paraphernalia, with the notable exception of toothpaste and toothbrush. As much as you may want to stay faithful to your favorite shampoo or cream, consider how much space they would take, not to mention the fact that it's not a bad thing to experiment every once in a while - who knows, you may discover some new favorite!
Books and games. Many people consider it a must to travel with some form of entertainment: a book, a portable audio device, crossword puzzles etc. While it is clearly a way to pass the time if getting to your destination takes a long time, don't forget that you are going on holiday. Why not try looking out the window instead, striking up a conversation with a fellow traveler, or even emptying out your mind and getting it ready to absorb the wonders that lie in wait?
Seasoned travelers will tell you that you should pack only the strictly necessary, because you will surely come back carrying twice as much in souvenirs, specific drink, cool accessories or clothing items. So let the culture and wonders of your chosen destination win you over, and leave your 'baggage' at home!
