Memory Loss Menopause

Some women may experience memory loss problem, when they reach menopausal phase. Memory impairment is a part of aging. Menopausal women find it hard to retrieve information, when they want. This may leave them in a frustrated state of mind.

Causes of memory loss during menopause:

The physicians believe that estrogen loss is the main reason for memory loss during menopause. Estrogen stimulates the activity of brain and raises helpful brain chemicals. It protects the brain cells. It dilates blood vessels in the brain, causing increased flow of red blood cells. Hence, loss of estrogen leads to memory loss and other memory related disorders. Extreme stress, depression, lack of sleep and poor nutrition can also contribute to memory impairment during menopausal phase.

There are some natural remedies to memory loss during menopause.

o Brain needs exercise. Menopausal women can activate their brain with the help of brain teasers, crossword puzzles and mental sharpening games. Travel can also help to increase the power of brain.

o Menopause may cause sleeping disturbances, which in turn trigger memory impairment. Women suffering from sleeping problems need to take some steps to solve them. Listening to soothing music, maintaining calm atmosphere in bedroom and taking a refreshing bath before going to bed can help to get good sleep.

o Stress releases a hormone called cortisol. It blocks memory from being stored. Following some breathing techniques, yoga and meditation can help to manage stress.

o Ginkgo is a natural herb that helps to reduce the severity of memory impairment during menopause.

o It is proved that blueberries can have a positive impact on memory loss. Taking blue berries regularly can help to cope with this problem.

o Eating a balanced diet and avoiding alcohol consumption can be useful in improving mental alertness and clarity.
